Description: Students begin this course by exploring the dimensions of good health, including how to manage their physical, mental, and social well‑being and how to build healthy intra‑ and interpersonal relationships. The semester covers good nutrition and safe food preparation and handling, the elements of physical fitness and its importance across the lifespan, and the prevention and management of infectious and noninfectious diseases. Students learn to recognize and manage stress, examine substance use and abuse and strategies to avoid or quit, and are introduced to neurodiversity and common characteristics of neurodiverse people. The course also addresses mental health and mental illness, suicide prevention, the short‑ and long‑term effects of violence and approaches to prevent or reduce it, and community and environmental health and safety in the home, school, and community.

Demonstrate independent learning of movement skills. Explain the concept of agility and what it entails, and identify activities that utilize agility components. Explain what balance and coordination, reaction time, speed, and physical power are and identify activities that utilize each. Identify complex motor skills that represent basic human movements and describe how to modify movements like walking and running for various terrains. Identify team strategies and the goals of these strategies, identify the components of group dynamics, and strategies for improving group dynamics. Identify and define the components of rhythmic movement and activities that require someone to perform rhythmic patterns of movement.

Description: The Early Childhood Education Two course is designed to provide an overview of the professional expectations of being an early childhood educator. Throughout the course, students will learn about what it means to be a professional, including the significance of professional development in any educational role. They will review observational methods and the history of education in the United States, with a focus on early childhood and school-age programs. They will spend a significant portion of the course learning about the importance of Developmentally Appropriate Practice and how to implement DAP strategies. Designing physical, social, and temporal environments will also be a major focus of the course, as will developing relationships with families and communities to strengthen their position and knowledge.
